Wentworth Plastics manufacture GRP door canopies for external wall insulation (EWI) and retrofit projects across the UK. Our canopy solutions are designed for refurbishment programmes where existing entrances, façades and concrete canopies need to be adapted to accommodate new external insulation systems.

We supply EWI contractors, refurbishment specialists and housing providers with durable, low-maintenance GRP canopies, including solutions for replacing or sleeving existing concrete canopies. Products can be supplied in a range of styles and sizes to suit both individual properties and larger residential schemes.

GRP Canopy Solutions for External Wall Insulation

External wall insulation can create practical problems around existing door canopies. The increased wall thickness may affect the original canopy position, fixing points and the way the canopy interfaces with the finished façade.

Wentworth Plastics manufactures GRP canopy solutions specifically for EWI and retrofit projects. Canopies can be manufactured with extended fixing upstands to accommodate the additional insulation thickness, as well as bespoke dimensions and fixing arrangements where standard products are not suitable.

For projects where existing concrete canopies are to remain in place, we can also manufacture GRP canopies designed to sleeve over the existing structure. This can provide a practical way of incorporating the original canopy into the refurbished façade while giving the property the appearance and low-maintenance finish of a new GRP canopy.

Wentworth Plastics supplied more than 30 Georgian-style GRP door canopies for this residential external wall insulation refurbishment scheme.

The project required a mixture of single-door canopies and larger double canopies spanning adjacent entrances. Each canopy was manufactured to suit the requirements of the refurbished properties, providing a consistent appearance across different property and entrance configurations.

The project demonstrates our ability to manufacture GRP canopies in varying sizes for larger EWI and housing refurbishment programmes, including bespoke solutions where standard canopy dimensions are not suitable.

GRP Sleeves for Existing Concrete Canopies

Existing concrete door canopies do not always need to be removed when a property is externally insulated. Wentworth Plastics can manufacture bespoke GRP canopy sleeves designed to encapsulate the existing concrete structure and integrate it into the newly insulated façade.

Manufactured to suit the dimensions of the existing canopy and the new wall build-up, the GRP sleeve provides a clean, weather-resistant and low-maintenance external finish while retaining the original concrete canopy beneath.

This approach can provide a practical solution for EWI refurbishment projects where removal of the existing concrete canopy is unnecessary or undesirable.

Bespoke two-part apex GRP canopy developed for a residential EWI refurbishment project.

Not every EWI project can be accommodated using a standard canopy. Wentworth Plastics can develop bespoke GRP solutions to suit unusual dimensions, entrance configurations and project-specific requirements.

For the properties shown here, we developed an oversized apex canopy manufactured in two sections. This allowed a much larger canopy to be produced and handled practically, with the two sections joined on site using a raised rolled joint along the roof.

The result provides the appearance of a single large traditional pitched canopy while using a construction method suited to manufacture, transport and installation.
